Sylvia Arias
Sylvia Arias is a strategy consultant that draws from her experience as a journalist and communication strategist to bring forth powerful insights that can bring visions together. She uses ethnographic approaches and a feminist intersectional lens to shed a light on the issues that are most dear to her in order to inspire social change. Currently, her focus is on the concept of accessible cities and fostering narratives that can lead to collective identities. Sylvia has experience as a social entrepreneur, a writer and in political and strategic communication in multiple, diverse environments such as Costa Rica, Washington DC, New York and Switzerland. Her work ranges from designing communication strategies for governments, to advocating for sustainable communities and conservation, to promoting gender equality as co-founder of TEDxBaselWomen in Switzerland. She is also a regular Op-ed contributor for La Nación, one of the leading Costa Rican newspapers.Sylvia received a Bachelor in Communication and Media Studies from Boston College and a Master’s Degree in Changing Societies from the University of Basel. Her MA studies centered on Bruno Latour’s Actor Network Theory in order to understand the effects that the pandemic brought upon creative industries, in particular to the music art world in Switzerland. Her curiosity is her biggest asset and her passion is to connect with people and places from all corners of the Earth.
